50 Things to do before you are 9!

Our teachers thought carefully about the skills and knowledge that we have at Horton. Using this they chose fifty activities that they thought we would enjoy and that would support us in the future. During our time at Horton we will have the opportunity to carry out these activities.

The activities include listening to an author talk about their book, visiting a place of worship, looking after an animal, visiting a city and lots lots more.

Young Voices 2025

One of our 50 things is to perform on a stage.

We were incredibly proud of all the of the children who participated in ‘Young Voices’ at the Co-op Live in Manchester. Young Voices offers children a chance to shine, creating lifelong memories and fostering a sense of community. We all LOVED the experiences!

Recycled Rafts

In Maple Class we used recycled materials to make a raft. We thought carefully about the properties of the material before we planned and made our boats. We had a lot of fun making them! Finally we got to sail our rafts.

Circus Workshop

To launch  ’50 Things to do before you are 9!’ we had a circus workshop. We loved learning new skills, some of our favourites were balancing and juggling!

Author Visit

We welcomed author Andy Tooze to our school. He is a poet from Buxton. He worked with all classes to write and deliver poems. His books include the ‘The Poetry Bug,’ It was an inspirational day for all.

Looking after animals

Do you know what a baby hedgehog is called? It is called a hoglet. We learnt how hedgehogs prepare for the cold. We were sad to find out that  our prickly pals are in  decline in the wild. We then become the builders of the future, creating a hedgehog friendly housing estate – using lego!
