Each academic year children vote to select a girl and a boy from every year group to represent them on the School Council.
These children then meet regularly to discuss ideas, or changes and improvements to school life.
In the past children have been involved in the creation of our new pirate ship; formulating ideas, designing the layout and persuading the Friends to donate funds.
In 2024/5 the children supported fundraising for new play equipment. They arranged a colouring competition with prizes to fund new balls to be used outside.
We have also got fundraising plans to raise money for a well in Nepal.
Having spoken to the rest of the children School Council wanted to raise money for more playground toys.
To fund this they decided to plan and organise an Easter themed treasure hunt. They wrote to local supermarkets who kindly donated Easter Eggs. On the day children gave a donation to hunt for eggs which were exchanged for chocolate. We raised enough money to buy lots of new toys which are now used at playtimes and lunch times. These included a giant jenga and some spinning plates.
In 2023 – 24 one of the projects that school council worked on was toilet twinning.
The children learnt that in some countries people do not have access to a proper toilet or clean water. They found out about the impact of this on their lives.
As a school the children wanted to raise some money to twin our toilets. School Council planned and organised a poo Olympics and children could pay to play the games!
School council helped to run the event. We had great fun.
We ‘fished for floaters’, threw a poo into an actual toilet, played ‘pin the poo on the toilet’ and much more! This money will fund a project in a community that helps families to build their own basic toilet and have access to clean water.
Thank you to all who helped in anyway.
