HORTON ST. MICHAEL'S FIRST SCHOOL AND NURSERY

Welcome to Horton St Michael's. We are a caring creative, and forward-thinking school set in the beautiful Staffordshire countryside near to Rudyard Lake.  Our school offers children the best possible start to their education; we are driven by a desire to create an atmosphere where children are inspired to want to learn, not just for now but for the rest of their lives.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

OUR VALUES AND VISION

Learning,  Laughing and Playing together in God’s hands

Our aim is for children to become confident, resourceful and resilient learners, we do this by providing a safe, nurturing environment where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities and challenge is welcomed. As a C of E school we encourage the children to have high moral standards and to respect all people; irrespective of belief so that they can engage productively in the world around them. We encourage children and parents to understand that learning happens everywhere and at any time and that the world is a place for adventure and opportunity.

Maple class had great fun in forest school this week. They made apple crumble, cooked it over the fire and then the best bit....the sampling! 🍏🍎🔥😊 Thank you to Greenwood Growth CIC who have been working with us since September to provide forest school activities. It's great to see the children having fun in the forest whilst forgetting what is going on in the outside world. All part of our wellbeing and mindfulness focus for the children....and staff! https://www.facebook.com/136634616716821/posts/1223223374724601/

11 November, 2020

This is our new Remembrance Day display featuring work from both Maple and Sycamore class. Maple class have tied their learning in with their World War 2 topic, they created London skyline artwork after looking at the Blitz, the colours look beautiful! The children of Maple class also created acrostic poems using the words 'hero', 'poppy' and 'remember'. In Sycamore, the children have been inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's 'Oriental Poppies' artwork and created their own interpretations. They also did some upcycling and reused coffee cup sleeves to create some wonderful poppy wristbands. We gathered together at 11am on the playground to do a small remembrance service with the children.

When Mrs Lowndes told the children in Sycamore class about rescuing a hedgehog (named Stumpy) whilst out walking with her daughter the children became very interested in hedgehogs 🦔🦔 After a quick change in lesson plans, the children were able to find out about hedgehogs, read stories about hedgehogs and even make their own clay hedgehogs. They also sent pictures to the Hedgehog Rescue Centre who were taking care of Stumpy and some of their pictures were put on display as you can see from the attached Facebook post 🦔❤🦔 https://www.facebook.com/108905260510372/posts/413450636722498/?d=n
