Horton St. Michael’s First School and Nursery
Welcome to Horton St Michael’s. We are a small, rural, Church of England First School and Nursery set in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands. We are within walking distance of Rudyard Lake and close to Leek.
The world is an exciting and amazing place with so much to discover, to enjoy, to experience and to learn. We all feel very lucky to be a part of the amazing journey your child is on as they take those early steps of discovery which is full of wonder, creativity and imagination.
The children chose the bible verse ‘I am the vine and you are the branches’ (John 15:5) to represent how they feel about our school. They said that our school is like a garden; they are the flowers and trees and the teachers are the gardeners. The school is deeply rooted in Christian Faith, part of which is to welcome everyone, including those of different faiths and no faith.
Our Christian Vision drives our school forward as we teach the children the importance of adventure, creativity, friendship and determination. It is these skills which we believe allow all of us to ‘live life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10). Horton St Michael’s is a place where everyone is cherished for who they are and where everyone can develop their talents and gifts in a safe and fun environment.
Our environment is the envy of many and we use it to it’s full. We have a beautiful woodland, a wildlife pond, an allotment and even a pirate ship! All of these places allow the children to flourish and explore; it is not unusual to see children building dens, cooking over a real fire and using sharp tools to create something amazing. Our children and staff are outdoor people who love learning and creating memories outdoors.
We hope that the website will answer many of the questions you may have about our school but we welcome visits at any time of the year. We look forward to seeing you soon.
