Horton St. Michael’s First School and Nursery
Welcome to Horton St Michael’s. We are a small, rural, Church of England First School and Nursery set in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands. We are within walking distance of Rudyard Lake and close to Leek.
The school is a member of the Staffordshire University Academies Trust (SUAT) and the Diocese of Lichfield.
We share Executive Leadership with St Peter’s CE Academy at Alton, St Augustine’s CE Academy, Draycott in the Clay and All Saints CE Academy, Denstone. The children benefit from shared activities, sports fixtures and educational visits.
Horton St. Michael’s Christian Vision
Horton C of E school is a loving community, where everyone is celebrated and treated with dignity and respect. We aim to use our God given talents to be creative and curious learners about the world we share, enabling us to become people of hope who make a positive and lasting impact on society. We learn to love and value our beautiful school and its surroundings as a part of God’s creation and recognise our role as stewards in this. Through our values, we celebrate and nurture the whole child, helping to build strong foundations and enthusiasm for life long learning.
Our Christian Vision drives our school forward as we teach the children the importance of creativity, hope, curiosity and love. It is these values which we believe allow all of us to ‘live life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10).
Horton St Michael’s is a place where everyone is cherished for who they are and where everyone can develop their talents and gifts in a safe and fun environment.
Our environment is the envy of many and we use it to its full. We have a beautiful woodland, a wildlife pond, an allotment and even a pirate ship! All of these places allow the children to flourish and explore; it is not unusual to see children building dens, cooking over a real fire and using sharp tools to create something amazing. Our children and staff are outdoor people who love learning and creating memories outdoors.
We hope that the website will answer many of the questions you may have about our school but we welcome visits at any time of the year. We look forward to seeing you soon.
